Many organisations have employees in Ireland, and Britain or in NI. A common misconception is that employment laws in these jurisdictions are very similar. This event is designed to consider and compare the key components of employment law in Ireland and in Britain and to explain the key differences. References to the differences between the position in the North and in Britain will be explained from the outset. Special reference this year will be made to the law relating to lay-offs, short time and redundancy in both jurisdictions as well as the single Equality Act in GB, which came into force on 1st October 2010.
What are the learning outcomes?
Note: The emphasis will be at least 75% UK law. Delegates should have a reasonable understanding of Irish employment laws, although both speakers will be available throughout the day to answer questions.
